SAN DIEGO (September 1, 2026) - Shield AI today announced that L3Harris Technologies (NYSE: LHX) has licensed Shield AI's Tracker Counter-Unmanned Aircraft System (Tracker C-UAS) to equip its VAMPIRE™ platform, creating an integrated counter-drone solution.
The combined system provides passive, AI-powered drone detection and precision engagement, enabling operators to better detect, track, and defeat unmanned aerial threats. L3Harris licensed Tracker C-UAS to equip VAMPIRE systems with AI-powered detection, and Shield AI is making the software available for licensing across other platforms operators already use.
Tracker C-UAS, part of Shield AI's Vision Systems product line, is software that uses proprietary AI and computer vision to detect, discriminate, and track faraway threats in electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) video, providing early warning to aid rapid engagement without radar or RF emissions.
"Aerial threats continue to evolve, driving the need for advanced, passive sensing technologies that enable operators to identify threats without exposing their position," said Tony Calderon, President, Targeting & Sensor Systems, Communications & Spectrum Dominance, L3Harris. "The integration of Tracker C-UAS with our proven VAMPIRE platform delivers an operationally effective solution that enhances threat detection, target tracking and counter-UAS engagement while improving force survivability."
This integration builds on the companies' earlier demonstration, where L3Harris integrated its WESCAM® MX®-Series EO/IR sensor systems with Shield AI's Tracker C-UAS software to detect multiple classes of unmanned aerial systems at ranges beyond those achievable with existing systems.
"The rapid proliferation of low-cost drones is forcing militaries to rethink how they detect and defeat aerial threats," said Christian Gutierrez, Shield AI's senior vice president of Hivemind. "Pairing passive AI sensing with VAMPIRE gives operators the ability to detect threats early and act with speed and confidence."
The VAMPIRE™ counter-UxS system is a self-contained precision-strike capability designed to counter hostile unmanned systems and ground threats while helping protect personnel and critical infrastructure. Built to deploy on nearly any platform, vehicle, or vessel, it delivers advanced ISR and precision strike against drones and remotely piloted aircraft, reducing the cost-per-effect compared to traditional missile systems. Since 2023, VAMPIRE systems have logged more than 350,000 operational hours and shot down hundreds of hostile drones in combat, primarily in support of European operations.
