AUGUSTA, GA - Augusta Transit Celebrates Launch of First Battery-Electric Buses with Community Ribbon Cutting
Augusta Transit is celebrating a major milestone with the launch of its first five battery-electric buses, the first of their kind in the Central Savannah River Area.
Funded through a $6.2 million Federal Transit Administration Low or No Emission Vehicle Program (Low-No) grant, the new buses are designed to reduce noise, eliminate tailpipe emissions, and provide a smoother, more comfortable ride for passengers and drivers.
"To see these buses on the streets of Augusta is to see our city's commitment to cleaner air, innovation, and better service for our riders," said Sharon Dottery, Transit Director. "This launch is a testament to collaboration and progress that will move Augusta forward." In partnership with Georgia Power, six high-capacity ChargePoint charging stations have been installed at Augusta Transit's maintenance facility, capable of fully charging each bus in six to eight hours. The Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE) will continue supporting the initiative by collecting performance data and helping guide Augusta's long-term zero-emission strategy.
The community is invited to attend the Ribbon Cutting and Official Launch Ceremony on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at 12:00 PM, at Augusta Transit's Operations and Maintenance Facility, 2844 Regency Blvd, Augusta, GA 30904.
This initiative is part of Augusta's commitment to building a cleaner, more connected city.
