Marion Fire Department & Linn County EMA Partner to Increase Community Preparedness

The Marion Fire Department and Linn County Emergency Management are partnering to increase community preparedness by expanding Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) in Marion and Linn County.
Those interested in learning more about CERT are invited to a community preparedness open house on Tuesday, Sept. 30 from 6:30-8 p.m. at Fire Station No. 1 (100 Irish Dr., Marion). Meet fellow CERT members, learn how to use a fire extinguisher and receive hands-only CPR training. This is a great opportunity to connect and build community readiness.
A free, three-day CERT Basic Training course will then be offered from Oct. 10-12, 2025, at the Linn County Emergency Operations Center on the Kirkwood Community College campus and at Fire Station No. 1 in Marion.

Participants will gain essential skills and knowledge to:
• Reduce emergency needs during disasters
• Manage resources until professional help arrives
• Support neighbors through teamwork, training and preparation
Those interested are encouraged to sign up for CERT Basic Training today. Spots are limited and participants will be required to complete three FEMA independent study courses prior to CERT Basic Training.
Both events are free and open to the public. Learn more by calling the Marion Fire Department at (319) 377-8237.
By planning ahead and working together, we can build a stronger, more prepared community.
