The Finnish Minister of Science and Culture Mari-Leena Talvitie will attend the MONDIACULT 2025 conference on 29-30 September. Thousands of policymakers and experts will meet in Barcelona to outline the future of cultural policy.

Discussions will revolve around six themes: cultural rights, digital technologies in the cultural sector, links between culture and education, economy of culture, culture and climate action, and culture, heritage and crisis.

The other focus areas are artificial intelligence and culture, and culture for peace. These are the themes that will guide discussions on the challenges and opportunities for global cultural policy.

MONDIACULT provides an important forum for advocacy. With the conclusion of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda in sight, the 2025 UNESCO Conference will be a decisive moment to bolster the status of culture as part of the planning of the next UN development strategy.

It will also be an opportunity to look at what has been achieved since the Final Declaration of the 2022 MONDIACULT Conference. The impacts of the Declaration can already be seen, for the importance of culture has risen to the fore more prominently in the global debate.

Nordic side event in Barcelona

The Nordic countries will host, in cooperation with the Nordic Council of Ministers, a MONDIACULT side event under the theme Access to culture and cultural heritage bolsters societal development and resilience in times of crisis.

This event, which will also discuss freedom of expression and artistic freedom, will be opened on Tuesday 30 September by Mari-Leena Talvitie, Minister of Science and Culture, and Lubna Jaffery, Minister of Culture and Equality of Norway.
