Everytown Spent $10 Million to Elect Moms Demand Action Volunteers, Flip State Legislative Chambers, and Build Trifectas in Key Battleground States
WASHINGTON - Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, declared a major victory today as voters flipped the Pennsylvania Senate to a gun safety majority, establishing a gun safety trifecta.
"After years of watching gun safety bills pass the House only to stall in the state Senate, Pennsylvanians elected a gun safety majority that will finally get the job done," said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. "Families in every corner of the state have waited long enough, and Everytown is ready to help this new gun safety trifecta deliver."
"Pennsylvania volunteers looked at the state Senate map this year and saw a majority within reach, and they spent the fall going after it district by district," said Angela Ferrell-Zabala, executive director of Moms Demand Action. "The results proved them right, and now families across the Commonwealth have a gun safety trifecta ready to take their safety seriously."
"Our generation grew up practicing active shooter drills, and this fall we decided we were done waiting on Harrisburg to act," said Natalie Brenner, leader of the Lehigh University chapter of Students Demand Action. "We testified at the Capitol, knocked doors between classes, and helped elect a state Senate that's on our side. Now we're ready to work with our gun safety champions to pass the laws that keep our schools and communities safe."
Everytown's top state-level goal this cycle was building trifectas: establishing gun safety majorities in both legislative chambers alongside a gun safety champion in the governor's office. Across Arizona, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund, Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund, and Everytown for Gun Safety VF MN invested $10 million, running paid media campaigns supporting Moms Demand Action volunteers in key state legislative battleground districts and partnering with the Democratic Governors Association to elect gun safety governors in those states. Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers made more than 15 million voter contacts in support of gun sense candidates up and down the ballot.
These candidates were among 547 Moms Demand Action volunteers who ran for offices up and down the ballot across 47 states this cycle, including 40 in all who ran for Congress. Many were trained through Demand a Seat, which Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund launched in 2021 to train grassroots volunteers and gun violence survivors to run for office. The program has trained more than 1,600 volunteers across 49 states and Washington, D.C. Since 2021, more than 600 former volunteers have been elected, including six who were already serving in Congress before this election.
