PepsiCo reports on progress toward 2030 water goals

June 5, 2026

PURCHASE, N.Y., June 5, 2026 - Today, PepsiCo, Inc. (NASDAQ: PEP) shared an update on progress toward its 2030 pep+ (PepsiCo Positive) water ambitions, reporting progress against its watershed replenishment and water-use efficiency goals, which for the first time incorporate data related to direct operations at both company-owned and franchise-bottler owned manufacturing facilities located in high water-risk areas.

High water risk areas are based on a 2025 assessment utilizing the World Resources Institute's (WRI) Aqueduct tool. Franchise-owned bottlers with manufacturing facilities located within these areas provide data regarding their direct operations and replenishment efforts to PepsiCo, which PepsiCo's incorporates into its performance metrics.

With this expanded reporting scope, PepsiCo has achieved 58% progress toward its 2030 watershed replenishment goal - equivalent to 23 billion liters of water returned, restored or replenished to local watersheds. PepsiCo also improved its water-use efficiency and lowered reliance on high-risk sources, achieving 1.6 liters/liter and 2.0 liters/kilogram for high water risk beverage and convenient food sites respectively1. This progress underscores ongoing efforts to advance responsible water stewardship within direct operations at both company-owned and franchise-bottler owned manufacturing facilities located in high-water risk areas.

2030 water ambition

PepsiCo's 2025 replenishment target focused on company-owned manufacturing facilities in high water-risk watersheds, a milestone the company achieved last year. As we initially announced last year, and building on that foundation, the company's 2030 ambition extends the replenishment target and reporting to direct operations at both company-owned and franchise bottler-owned manufacturing facilities located in high water-risk areas. Similarly, PepsiCo also includes franchise-bottler owned manufacturing facilities located in high-water risk areas in its 2030 water use efficiency goal.

"Watershed replenishment is a great example of our net water positive vision in action. We are focused on the watersheds where positive impact is most needed by replenishing back into local watersheds the volume of water used to produce our products in our direct manufacturing operations and those of our franchise bottlers located in high water risk areas." said Roberta Barbieri, Global Vice President, Sustainability - Climate and Water, PepsiCo. "Achieving nearly 60% replenishment in high water-risk areas is a testament to the leadership of local teams."

Strong leadership and collaboration: Mexico franchise bottler

"At GEPP, our collaboration with PepsiCo as its franchise bottler in Mexico is helping us accelerate GEPP's progress in water replenishment within its direct operations. By aligning our shared goals and leveraging innovative technologies within our manufacturing facilities, GEPP is working to improve water conditions and drive sustainable production. This teamwork is enabling meaningful progress toward protecting water resources and strengthening the long-term resilience of the communities where we operate," said Geronimo Rotundo, Sustainability & Transformation Director at GEPP.

This collaborative approach between PepsiCo and GEPP pairs global expertise and standards with local ownership and accountability, capacity-building, and context-specific solutions to address shared water challenges.

A strong foundation on the road to pep+ 2030 water goals

Progress towards our pep+ 2030 water goals builds on years of PepsiCo's investment in nature-based solutions, infrastructure improvements, and manufacturing and agricultural water efficiency programs - designed not only to reduce operational water impacts, but to help sustain the long-term health and resilience of the watersheds, communities, and water systems involved in the production of PepsiCo-branded products. "Water is integral to the production of PepsiCo-branded products and to the communities where PepsiCo-branded products are manufactured," Barbieri added. "As we look ahead to 2030, we'll continue focusing on solutions that we believe will make water resources more sustainable and more resilient."

PepsiCo will continue to work towards all 2030 water ambitions including:

  • Reaching average water-use efficiency ratios of 1.4 liters/liter of production in beverages sites and 1.7 liters/kilogram of production in convenient foods sites for 100% of high water-risk PepsiCo and franchise bottler manufacturing facilities;
  • Replenishing back into the local watershed 100% of the water we use in high water-risk PepsiCo and franchise bottler manufacturing facilities; and
  • Reaching 100 million people with safe water access1

PepsiCo will continue to report on progress toward these ambitions as part of its pep+ reporting. More details can be found on our Water ESG Topics A-Z page, as well as our Performance Metrics and Calculation Methodology file.
