Construction of five-level public parking garage approved by Board of Governors
(Hanover Township, PA) - Record-breaking passenger traffic and more flight options at Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) has created an immediate need for additional vehicle parking to support current demand and future growth in air service.
On Tuesday, October 27th, the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority (LNAA) Board of Governors unanimously approved the construction of a five-level public parking garage and walkway within the footprint of the Short-Term Parking Lot.
"Public parking demand is more frequently exceeding available capacity in our Short-Term,
Long-Term, and Overflow parking lots, especially during peak travel periods at ABE," said Thomas R. Stoudt, Executive Director, LNAA.
The new public parking garage will add approximately 1,000 additional parking spaces to the roughly 1,700 existing public parking spaces. Always focused on elevating the customer experience, the parking garage will include:
Additionally, the elevated pedestrian walkway provides a protected and direct connection from the parking garage to the ticketing level of the Main Terminal.
With an estimated construction cost of $55 million, the public parking garage is expected to be open by 2029.
"We recognize there will be some operational challenges during the construction of this necessary project. The Airport remains committed to ensuring a convenient customer experience through increased complimentary shuttle bus service to our Overflow and Long-Term parking lots, and the temporary expansion of additional public parking areas," said Stoudt.
