Randwick City Council rangers and NSW Police have once again taken to our streets together, conducting a joint bicycle safety operation across the local area.
Bicycle police and council rangers patrolled key locations throughout the Randwick LGA, focusing on rider behaviour, compliance with road rules, and the safe sharing of our footpaths and bike paths.
Under NSW law, anyone aged 16 or over is prohibited from riding a bicycle, e-bike, or electric scooter on a footpath unless accompanying a child, with on-the-spot fines applying.

Officers on bicycles move at a pace that allows genuine, unhurried conversation with riders - making education as much a part of the job as enforcement. And their visible presence in the community sends a clear signal that safety is being taken seriously at street level.
During the operation, rangers and officers were watching for a range of behaviours including:
The message from Council and Police is consistent and clear: safety is never optional. Use the road or a designated bike path, slow down in shared spaces, give way to pedestrians, and ride within the law.
