Gov. Rhoden Introduces Airport Expansion Bill

PIERRE, S.D. - Today, Governor Larry Rhoden announced he pre-filed SB 76, which supports the expansion of the Sioux Falls and Rapid City airports by providing 0% interest loans of up to $15 million for each airport.

"South Dakota continues to grow, and we need infrastructure that can grow with us," said Governor Larry Rhoden. "We're putting existing dollars to work in a smart, responsible way. By supporting these airport expansions, we are strengthening our economy, improving connectivity, and keeping South Dakota Open for Opportunity."

Governor Rhoden previously announcedhis plan to bring forward this legislation at a press conference at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport, where he was joined by both Sioux Falls and Rapid City leadership.

SB 76 transfers unobligated money from the Housing Infrastructure Fund to the Revolving Economic Development and Initiative (REDI) Fund. A portion of those funds will support this airport investment.

This plan also positions the REDI Fund for future recapitalization and strengthens its ability to support other economic development projects across our state.
