Loma Linda University's Behavioral Health hosted its 18th annual Seeds of Hope fundraiser on November 13, bringing together patients, families, staff, and supporters for an evening focused on the critical importance of behavioral health. Every dollar raised helps fund services for adult or pediatric patients who may need emergency care or provide scholarships for ongoing treatment.
Attendees enjoyed dinner while Edward Field, MBA, vice president of Behavioral Health Services, provided an update on the progress made in services over the past year, including the sold-out 7th annual Stand up to Stigma 5k, the upcoming completion of the EmPATH unit - two dedicated psychiatric units for youth and adults within the emergency department -- and the youth expansion into the Hinshaw Towers that will enhance capacity to address the diverse needs of those we serve.
"Our mission has always been to meet people where they are and guide them toward wholeness," Field said. "Tonight's support strengthens our ability to reach even more individuals and families, ensuring no one faces their mental health journey alone."
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Behavioral Health Champion Award, given to Deborah Carritte for her dedicated efforts in developing a youth addiction intervention program. Rachelle Bussell, Senior Vice President of Advancement, and William LaBore, Director of Planned Giving at Loma Linda University Health, recognized Carrite's dedication to creating more resources to help in our community.
The event also featured a video of a patient, Kadynse, who shared her journey of healing and recovery after surviving a sexual assault and struggling with self-harm. Kaydence's courage and resilience moved the audience as she discussed the impact the program has had on her recovery. Watch the video here.
