Rochester Man Indicted for Fatal Stabbing in Amherst

Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces that Tyshon D. White, 29, of Rochester, was arraigned on Friday afternoon before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth F. Case on an indictment charging him with one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree (Class B violent felony) and one count of Attempted Assault in the First Degree (Class C violent felony).

It is alleged that on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at approximately 11:40 a.m., Amherst Police responded to the area of Draden Lane and Denrose Drive for a reported stabbing. The victim, 21-year-old Caden Nelipowitz, was taken by ambulance to DeGraff Hospital where he died from a sharp force injury to his lower back.

The defendant is accused of attempting to cause serious physical injury to the victim by striking him with a vehicle. It is further alleged that the defendant, with the intent to cause serious physical injury, stabbed the victim in the back and upper arm.

White was held without bail. A return court date has not been scheduled at this time.

DA Keane commends the Amherst Police Department for their work in this investigation as well as the Rochester Police Department for their assistance.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Justin T. Wallens of the Homicide Bureau and Assistant District Attorney Ryan E. Thie of the Felony Trials Bureau.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
