NJSDA Announces Demolition and Early Site Preparation Activities to Clear Site for a New Middle School in West New York

West New York, NJ - The New Jersey Schools Development Authority (SDA) today joined West New York School District and local officials to highlight ongoing demolition and site preparation activities to clear the site for construction of a new, 162,000 square-foot middle school in West New York.

"As students across the State start another academic year, the SDA remains focused on pushing forward critical school construction projects, including a new middle school here in West New York," said SDA CEO Manuel Da Silva. "The robust activity on this site will ready it for the construction of a state-of-the-art educational facility next year. Through our ongoing partnership with the school district, city, and state officials, we will provide West New York students with an academic environment equipped with the technology and resources needed to help them succeed."

SDA previously awarded APS Contracting, Inc. a general construction contract for $2.25 million to perform demolition and removal of the remaining foundations and associated site conditions, as well as preparation of the former Warminster Building site. All early site preparation activities are anticipated for completion in March 2026.

The next phase of this important project is the advancement of a design-build contract that will encompass the final design and construction of the new school. The new middle school will be designed to educate a maximum of 876 students in grades six through eight.

The SDA's Board of Directors approved a design-build contract award on October 1, 2025, to Terminal Construction Corporation for $91.75 million. Terminal Construction Corporation will be working with DMR Architects on the design. Following the expiration of the Governor's veto period and execution of the contract, a notice to proceed with the design phase will commence. The total estimated SDA project cost for the new school is $121.8 million.

The SDA has invested more than $216 million in completed projects in West New York alone, including six capital projects and 12 health and safety/grant/emergent projects. In addition, the SDA has provided $5.1 million through funding available for Capital Maintenance and Emergent Grants.
