An encore worth waiting for: Glen Street Theatre major auditorium renewal

Glen Street Theatre is preparing to raise the curtain on an exciting new chapter, with a major auditorium renewal project scheduled from January to April 2027.

The upgrade marks the next stage of a multi-year investment program designed to enhance the audience experience and ensure the much-loved venue continues to serve the Northern Beaches community for generations to come.

The project will see the theatre's auditorium seating and house lighting completely renewed, creating a more comfortable, welcoming and contemporary environment for audiences attending performances, events and community activities.

Together, these improvements will help ensure Glen Street Theatre remains one of Sydney's leading performing arts venues, equipped with modern technology and facilities to support outstanding productions and memorable audience experiences well into the future.

Following years of loyal service, the old seating will be replaced with new seating that will offer improved accessibility options and increased audience capacity.

The renewal will also include upgraded house lighting, enhancing the atmosphere, safety and overall visitor experience from the moment patrons take their seats.

The auditorium renewal represents an important part of a broader program of improvements across the venue.

In recent years, Glen Street Theatre has invested in major behind-the-scenes enhancements, including the installation of state-of-the-art LED stage lighting in 2025 and a comprehensive sound system upgrade in 2026.

The works have been carefully scheduled during a planned closure period between January and April 2027 to minimise disruption to the theatre's annual program and venue hirers.

While details of the 2027 season remain under wraps for now, theatre lovers can expect a season of blockbuster productions, acclaimed artists and unforgettable live entertainment waiting in the wings with the season being unveiled in January.
