On Dec. 19, Gov. Patrick Morrisey issued a proclamation granting a half-day off to state employees on Wednesday, Dec. 24, along with an additional full day off on Friday, Dec. 26, for the Christmas holiday.
Since West Virginia University already observed Dec. 24 and 26 as holidays, the University has modified its calendar to include Tuesday, Dec. 30, as a half-day holiday and Friday, Jan. 2, as a full day off in observance of the extended state holiday.
The University will close at 1 p.m. on Dec. 30, and will also be closed for the full day on Jan. 2.
"The gift of additional time with family and friends is one of the greatest gifts, especially during the holiday season," President Michael T. Bensonsaid. "We thank Gov. Morrisey for prioritizing the well-being of state employees with this extension, a decision we're supporting by adding to previously scheduled time off within the University holiday schedule."
The closures includes WVU Potomac State Collegeand WVU Institute of Technology.
WVU Extensionwill provide separate guidance for specific sites.
WVU Health Sciences faculty, staff and students who are working in patient care areas or in clinical rotations should check with their dean, program director or clinic manager for specific instructions.
Winter Intersession courses are not subject to these additional holiday closures and will continue as scheduled.
For the Dec. 30 half-day closure, employees will be excused from the second half of Tuesday with no charge against accrued annual leave.
The full-day closure will be effective for personnel on Jan. 2 from midnight to 11:59 p.m.
Some employees will be contacted by their supervisor with additional information regarding a holiday work schedule to support ongoing campus services. Employees with questions or concerns should contact their supervisors.
