The City of Detroit's Construction & Demolition Department (CDD) has shut off the historic Horace E. Dodge Fountain on Wednesday, October 1, as the fall season begins. The seasonal closure allows the department to winterize the fountain and protect its infrastructure during colder months.
Revitalized in 2024 through a $6.7 million restoration, Dodge Fountain continues to be carefully maintained by CDD to ensure it remains a point of pride for residents and visitors. While the water feature will be turned off, the fountain's lights will remain on daily from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., continuing to illuminate downtown Detroit throughout the year.
The fountain will resume full operations in Spring 2026.
