UPDATE: Powers Ferry Rd Bridge over Chattahoochee River Closed to Traffic Sept 1-3 for Maintenance, Traffic will be Detoured
ATLANTA METRO - Contractors for the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will temporarily close the Powers Ferry Road bridge over the Chattahoochee River in Cobb County, from 5 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1 until 9 p.m. on Thursday, September 3 . The previous date announced for the bridge closure was July 24-27.
Weather and on-site conditions permitting, the Powers Ferry Road bridge will be closed to traffic from 5 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1 until 9 p.m. on Thursday, September 3.
Onsite signage will direct traffic to the detour route, utilizing Interstate North Parkway. This temporary closure is related to a rehabilitation and preservation project on two bridges in Cobb County, and part of the planned seven-day repair schedule required to complete full bridge rehabilitation.
This project will replace or repair the bridges' concrete overlay, edge beams, substructure, and bridge joints. This $1.6 M project is scheduled for completion in late fall 2027.
Motorists are advised to expect delays and use signed detours, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones.
