Maintenance work with mercaptan will impact areas in Whitehaven
MLGW will perform routine maintenance near Gill and Brooks Roads; on Weaver, south of Ruby Creek; Shelby Drive, east of Horn Lake; Raines and Neely Roads; Holmes and Ford Roads; and Mitchel and Highway 61 starting Monday, October 6, and lasting until Wednesday, October 8.
Each day, this routine work will start at 7 a.m. and take all day, at each point, until work is complete.
The public in the surrounding area may smell mercaptan in the air. Mercaptan is the chemical odorant that MLGW adds to natural gas to give it the rotten egg/sulfur smell so it can be easily detected.
Depending on the wind/weather conditions, residents and businesses in the vicinity could smell this strong, sulfuric odor during the morning or from the odorant truck as it travels from each point.
