Governor Polis Announces Staff Updates

DENVER - Governor Polis announced updates to his communications staff today. Gov. Polis announced that effective February 6, Conor Cahill will be stepping down as Communications Director. Cahill has served on the Governor's communications team since his first term, beginning in 2019.

Throughout the Governor's tenure, Cahill spearheaded communications for historic legislative sessions, challenges facing the state, communicated the Polis-Primavera administration's policy priorities and achievements, including free universal preschool and full-day kindergarten, housing affordability, transit, renewable energy expansion, economic growth, tax relief, health care, and public safety. Cahill played a key role in delivering critical information to the public during the administration's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. He also crafted communications strategies for the Governor's role as chair and vice-chair of the National Governors Association and Western Governors Association.

Cahill previously served as the Governor's press secretary, as Communications Director for the House Democratic Caucus in the Colorado State Legislature, and in the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives on Capitol Hill.

The Governor intends to appoint Shelby Wieman, who has served as the Governor's Press Secretary since 2023, as the new Communications Director.

"Conor has helped our administration deliver real results, guided our effective communications through successes and challenges, and served as a trusted advisor and strategist. Our team is grateful for his commitment and leadership for nearly seven years," said Governor Polis.

"Shelby has been instrumental to our administration, is a proven leader, and a highly skilled communicator. We are thrilled Shelby will be leading our communications efforts to help achieve our goals and build a stronger Colorado for all," said Governor Polis.

Wieman previously served as the Governor's speechwriter, as the Governor's deputy press secretary, and as deputy press secretary to former Colorado Governor and current U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper.
