Bresnahan Backs Continuing Resolution to Maintain Government Operations

WASHINGTON, DC: Last night, U.S. Representative Rob Bresnahan, Jr. (PA-08) voted in favor of a continuing resolution to keep the federal government funded through December 4, 2026, preventing a government shutdown at the start of Fiscal Year 2027. The bipartisan legislation passed the House by a vote of 220-205 and extends Fiscal Year 2026 funding levels while Congress continues work on full-year appropriations bills.

"We cannot afford another government shutdown," said Rep. Bresnahan. "Last year's shutdown created unnecessary uncertainty for federal workers, small businesses, veterans, and families who rely on essential government services. Keeping the government open gives Congress the time to finish its work the right way through the regular appropriations process instead of governing through crisis."

A government shutdown would disrupt services that Americans rely on every day and create uncertainty for thousands of federal employees in Northeastern Pennsylvania, including those at Tobyhanna Army Depot, the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center, the Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport, local Social Security Administration offices, USP Canaan, and other federal facilities across the Eighth District.

The continuing resolution prevents a lapse in government funding while allowing Congress additional time to negotiate and complete Fiscal Year 2027 appropriations legislation through regular order.
