Our statement from Carlo A. Scissura, Esq., President and CEO of the New York Building Congress on the master developer announcement for Penn Station:
"It is no surprise that New York Building Congress members will lead the way on the transformative project to reimagine Penn Station as a 21st century, rider-focused transit hub.
With the US DOT's selection of the bold plan put forward by Halmar, and in partnership with HOK, New York can look forward to a day in the not-so-distant future when a trip to Penn elicits awe and ease, not curse words and frustration! We applaud the DOT for providing an extra $200M to ensure the project stays on-time and breaks ground in 2027. Thank you also to our partners at Amtrak for assuring a competitive process that wasted no time in delivering a winning bid.
It has been a long time coming, but the work begins today to ensure that not just the station, but the entirety of Midtown West becomes a vibrant 24/7 neighborhood befitting the busiest transit hub in the Western hemisphere.
We hail the many other NYBC members involved in this project:
-
Skanska Infrastructure Development and Skanska USA Civil Northeast
-
HNTB New York Engineering, Architecture & Landscape Architecture, P.C.
-
Vornado Realty L.P.
-
Severud Associates Consulting Engineers, P.C.
-
Langan Engineering, Environmental, Surveying, Landscape Architecture & Geology, D.P.C.
-
ASTM S.p.A.
Alongside them, the New York Building Congress itself will lead the way in touting the economic windfall and thousands of new jobs that a new Penn Station will bring. Let's roll!"
