The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Helen McEntee TD, will begin a programme of high-level meetings in Washington D.C. today, 4 February.
During her two-day visit, the Minister will meet with the United States' Trade Representative, Ambassador Jamieson Greer and the Deputy National Security Adviser, Andy Baker. She will also undertake a number of engagements on Capitol Hill. These meetings will focus on the US-Ireland relationship, transatlantic economic and trade relations between Ireland, the EU and the United States, as well as key foreign and security policy issues.
As part of her visit, Minister McEntee will deliver a keynote address at Bridging the Atlantic: Ireland and America at 250, a conference organised by Georgetown University. She will also meet with members of the Irish community and representatives of Irish and US businesses.
Ahead of her departure, the Minister said: "I look forward to meeting USTR Greer and Members of Congress, including those from the Friends of Ireland Caucus. Recent weeks have once again highlighted the importance of sustained and constructive transatlantic dialogue. As Ireland looks ahead to its upcoming EU Council Presidency, strengthening the EU-US relationship will be a priority.
"I also welcome the opportunity to update Ireland's friends and supporters in Congress on developments in Northern Ireland, including legacy issues and progress on the implementation of the Joint Framework agreed by the two governments.
"It is an honour to deliver the keynote address at the seventh Bridging the Atlantic conference at Georgetown University. This year's event marks 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, a defining moment to which so many Irish men and women contributed. Having spoken at the inaugural conference in 2019, I look forward to again sharing Ireland's perspective on transatlantic relations."
