The city of Daytona Beach will celebrate the completion of the Main Street Arch restoration project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at the historic arch located at 800 Main S
The Daytona Beach Main Street Arch, a symbol of the city's rich history, has connected the boardwalk and pier since the 1930s and holds decades of memories for both locals and visitors. Now nearing 90 years old, the iconic structure has undergone an extensive restoration effort aimed at preserving its original character while improving its structural integrity and appearance.
The more than $800,000 project began after engineers discovered exterior cracking on the arch. A deeper assessment revealed deteriorated steel and concrete within the structure, prompting the development of a comprehensive restoration plan.
Crews have completed the final phase of the project, which included finishing stonework on the decorative fountain and stairway on the north side, repairing a damaged expansion joint on the top walkway, and completing interior stucco on the north inside walls. Recent progress includes the installation of the front sign and the application of an epoxy coating to the handrails. Final touches included stucco and paint work on the lower level. These improvements not only restore the landmark's historic charm but also ensure its safety and longevity for future generations. To view the project's progress, visit https://tinyurl.com/puc3dnxk.
