College Board Invests in Teamship, Expanding Career-Connected Learning Opportunities for Students Nationwide

College Board today announced that District C and its flagship work-based learning program, Teamship, are joining College Board. Acquiring Teamship expands College Board's ability to deliver real-world, career-relevant learning experiences to students nationwide. Teamship is a proven work-based learning program where small teams of students solve real problems for real businesses, building the durable skills students need for their futures.

"Learning sticks when students can see it, build it, pitch it, and own it," said David Coleman, CEO of College Board. "Students are eager for hands-on learning that builds the skills technology can't replace and that matter beyond the classroom. Teamship brings the work-based learning experience to classrooms nationwide in partnership with educators and employers so all students can own their future."

By pairing College Board's unparalleled reach and proven record of delivering educational excellence at scale with the strength of the Teamship model, more students and schools will gain access to meaningful work-based learning, and more employers will be connected to the future talent they need.

"When students work on real problems for real businesses, something shifts. They show up differently-motivated by the chance to add real value-and they rise to the moment," said Dan Gonzalez, cofounder of District C. "We're absolutely thrilled to join College Board. Together, we'll bring this kind of learning to significantly more students, giving them the chance to contribute, build confidence, and develop the skills they need for modern work."

This strategic investment strengthens College Board's commitment to growing opportunities for all students to develop the skills needed to succeed and to own their future. According to College Board and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's New Hire Readiness Report 2025, 89% of employers put a premium on real-world experience among entry-level job seekers, whether gained through internships, career and technical education, or on-the-job experience. Nearly all report that durable skills like critical thinking and communication should be taught in high school and are essential across sectors.

Teamship serves as the flagship program of District C, a nonprofit focused on modern, team-based learning. Since 2017, Teamship has served more than 10,000 students and partnered with nearly 700 businesses. After joining College Board, the program will continue to operate as it does today, maintaining current offerings and remaining available to all interested schools, districts, and employer partners. Beginning in fall 2026, College Board will launch a coordinated expansion and outreach effort to bring Teamship to more communities nationwide.
