Mesa Mayor Mark Freeman swore in Mesa District 2 Councilmember Dorean Taylor at a special City Council meeting on Monday, Nov. 17, following the canvass of the Nov. 4 special election. The election was held after a recall petition successfully triggered a vote for the District 2 seat.
"I want to thank the voters of District 2 for participating in the special election, and welcome Councilmember Taylor," said Mayor Mark Freeman. "I look forward to continuing to Elevate Mesa with our City Council and the support of City leadership as we focus on the priorities that matter to our community: public safety, strong neighborhoods, economic opportunity, education and workforce development."
Councilmember Taylor has been a resident of Mesa for nearly 20 years. A small business owner with a background in business analysis, project management and process improvement, her priorities include ensuring excellent public safety services, maintaining infrastructure, addressing homelessness and supporting policies that keep Mesa affordable for families.
"I am honored to have the confidence and trust of District 2 residents," said Councilmember Taylor. "I will continue to focus on accountability, fiscal responsibility and preserving Mesa's long-standing community values."
Councilmember Taylor will complete the remainder of the four-year term through January of 2029.
