Southwestern University has once again been highlighted on Forbes’ annual list of America’s Top Colleges. The business magazine touted Southwestern as the #2 liberal arts college in Texas and the #320 overall university in the nation. Southwestern also received an A+ grade in Forbes’ College Financial Grades evaluation.
In their annual College Financial Grades, Forbes assesses the financial health of more than 900 private, not-for-profit colleges with enrollments higher than 500 students. Several key metrics are used to determine each school’s letter grade, including endowment assets per student, unrestricted net assets relative to expenses, enrollment growth, tuition as a percentage of revenue, and net tuition revenue per student.
Elsewhere across Forbes’ 2027 rankings, Southwestern was tabbed #68 on the publication’s Top Colleges in the South list, as well as #6 in Texas and #169 overall on their list of Best Private Colleges.
In their profile on the University, Forbes highlighted how Southwestern “emphasizes interdisciplinary study, close faculty interaction, and experiential learning across the humanities, sciences, social sciences, and professional fields.” The magazine went on to tout how “students can extend their education through undergraduate research, internships, community engagement, and study-away opportunities.”
Forbes also recognized one of Southwestern’s most popular differentiators, describing how the University’s “location near Austin provides access to professional and cultural opportunities in one of Texas’ major metropolitan areas.”
For their 2027 America’s Top Colleges List, Forbes evaluated roughly 2,600 four-year colleges and universities in the U.S. across a variety of degree types, including doctoral research universities, master’s universities and colleges, and baccalaureate colleges, as well as colleges that offer specialized programs in engineering, business, and art. Forbes ultimately ranked the top 500 that “produce successful, high-earning and influential graduates from all economic backgrounds, with less student debt.” Their full methodology can be found here.
