MADRID, October 22, 2026: Spanish CFOs and senior finance leaders identify political instability, conflict, and government change as a leading financial concern, according to new findings from Kyriba's CFO Risk Radar 2026.
The findings come as Spain prepares for a snap general election on November 29 and businesses assess changing policy, energy, and investment conditions.
Political instability, conflict, and government change are cited as a leading concern by 88% of Spanish finance leaders, the highest proportion across the nine markets surveyed. Regulatory and compliance pressures follow at 86%, while tariffs at 83%, interest rates by 82%, and currency volatility by 80%.
Despite this heightened concern, 54% of Spanish finance leaders say their organizations are highly prepared to manage financial risk, the second highest result among the markets surveyed, behind only the United States.
However, confidence in preparedness has not eliminated the impact of limited visibility. Three in four respondents, or 75%, say inadequate risk visibility has had a financial impact on their organization.
Spanish finance leaders are also more positive about their own businesses than the wider economy. While 62% have a positive outlook for the Spanish economy in 2026, 74% are optimistic about their own organizations performance.
Together, the findings highlight a gap between confidence in preparedness and the ability to quantify exposure and act quickly when conditions change. For finance teams, the challenge is understanding how political, regulatory, and market developments could affect cash, funding, foreign exchange, and liquidity across the organization.
"For finance teams, political instability becomes real when it changes the assumptions behind cash, funding, currency, and investment decisions. The challenge is not simply recognizing that the environment is uncertain. It is quantifying what a change could mean for the business quickly enough to act. That is what preparedness looks like in practice," said Adnan Isaac Baptista Balzan, CFO, Flexicar.
"Spanish finance leaders are not short of awareness about the risks facing their organizations," said Hugo Palis, Managing Director Iberia & CEMEA at Kyriba. "The survey points to a more practical challenge: turning a political or regulatory development into a clear view of which cash, funding, and foreign exchange exposures are affected, and what action is available. The organizations best placed to navigate uncertainty are those that can move from recognizing risk to quantifying its impact and acting with confidence."
The findings reinforce the importance of local insight and support as Spanish businesses navigate a more complex risk environment. Kyriba has expanded its presence in Spain with a new Madrid office, a planned Barcelona expansion, and a growing local team. Kyriba brings cash, funding, and foreign exchange data together to help finance teams improve visibility, quantify exposure, and respond more quickly as conditions change. At KyribaLive Exchange Madrid, finance leaders will explore how organizations can strengthen decision-making in a market where political and regulatory developments are increasingly relevant to business planning.
