Helsinki, Finland, 2.12.25 - Skyfora, the Finnish weather technology company transforming telecom networks into high resolution weather sensor grids, has been selected as one of the

Top 20 startups and finalist in the 4YFN Awards 2026 at MWC Barcelona.
The 4YFN Awards are the official startup competition of MWC Barcelona, highlighting the
world's most promising early and growth stage technology companies. Only four startups are selected globally in each award category, including Climate Tech, which recognises innovations that tackle climate change and strengthen environmental resilience.

Skyfora was chosen for its pioneering Telecom GNSS Meteorology solution, which activates
GNSS receivers already installed in 5G telecom infrastructure and turns them into high precision weather sensors through a software layer. This creates an ultra dense, real time weather sensing grid that provides the high quality data AI weather models need to reach the next level of accuracy.

The nomination comes shortly after Skyfora announced the successful demonstration of
Europe's first live 5G weather sensor grid during NATO's Digital Backbone Experimentation (DiBaX) in Latvia, together with LMT, the country's largest telecom operator. In that pilot, existing 5G towers were used to monitor and alarm of GNSS interference and to stream real time GNSS based humidity data that significantly improves short term forecasts for weather-affected industries and defense.

"Being named a 4YFN Awards Climate Tech finalist is a major milestone for Skyfora," said Fredrik Borgström, CEO of Skyfora. "4YFN and MWC Barcelona are where the global telecom, AI and deep tech communities meet. It is the ideal platform to show how turning 5G towers into weather sensors can create value for operators, investors and society at the same time."

At MWC Barcelona and 4YFN, Skyfora will present how its technology helps:

  • Telecom operators convert vulnerable infrastructure into a climate resilience asset that cuts weather related losses, reduces OPEX and opens new service revenues

  • AI weather models gain access to continuous, hyperlocal data that sharpens forecasts
for extreme weather, critical infrastructure, renewable energy, energy trading and
    defence.

  • Governments and telecom operators improve early warnings and climate resilience
through better observation coverage in real time

The 4YFN Awards 2026 winners will be announced during MWC Barcelona in March 2026.
Finalists receive exhibition space, speaking opportunities, investor visibility and access to GSMA and 4YFN networks.
