Trump Admin Cancels Energy Projects As "Most Americans Report Higher Electricity, Gas Bills Compared to a Year Ago"

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) issued the following statement on Day 3 of the Republican shutdown:

"President Trump is using the Republican shutdown to hurt people, cancel cost-saving projects, and make life harder and more expensive. Speaker Mike Johnson may call it 'trolling the Democrats,' but the reality is President Trump and Congressional Republicans are hurting all Americans.

"From health care to groceries to utilities, costs are crushing families. More Americans are reporting higher bills than just a year ago. President Trump promised to lower costs on day one, but it's only gotten worse. Meanwhile, billionaires and wealthy corporations are receiving billions in benefits.

"Americans - Republicans, Democrats, and Independents - overwhelmingly support extending tax credits to make health care affordable. It's time to stop premiums from doubling, prevent millions from losing coverage, keep hospitals open, and protect access to care for families. President Trump and Congressional Republicans can end their shutdown today."
