A training titled "Preventing Money Laundering in Accounting Practice: AML Approaches and Risk Management Strategies" was held at the National Bank of Georgia to mark International Accountants' Day.

The goal of the training was to enhance the knowledge and practical skills of representatives of the accounting and financial sectors in the areas of anti-money laundering (AML) and combating the financing of terrorism (CFT).

The event was attended by Ekaterine Galdava, Vice Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, and Tatiana Beridze, Director of the "Accountants' Union."

In her remarks, Ekaterine Galdava congratulated participants on their professional day and emphasized that, in addition to thematic trainings and knowledge sharing, the National Bank of Georgia places special importance on maintaining active and ongoing communication with financial sector stakeholders.

"For the National Bank of Georgia, it is essential to implement preventive supervisory measures, which include systematically informing financial sector representatives about supervisory expectations and supporting improvements in compliance levels.

It should be noted that the National Bank of Georgia continuously develops its regulatory and supervisory framework in the AML/CFT domain, with the goal of ensuring alignment with FATF international recommendations and fostering the sustainable development of an effective risk management culture," said Ekaterine Galdava.

Tatiana Beridze thanked the professionals who work daily to ensure financial transparency, reliable reporting, and the strengthening of economic stability. According to her, the support and effort of the National Bank of Georgia once again underscores that partnership between the public and private sectors is the cornerstone of financial transparency.

"As accountants, we are, first and foremost, guardians of financial security the people who must identify risks, uphold standards, and contribute to building trust in the financial system. This is not only a legal obligation, but also an ethical and social responsibility of our profession," said Tatiana Beridze.

The training session was led by Papuna Shengelaia, Head of the Anti-Money Laundering Inspection and Supervision Department at the National Bank of Georgia.

The event was organized within the framework of cooperation between the National Bank of Georgia and the professional association "Accountants' Union." A memorandum of understanding between the National Bank of Georgia and the Union was signed last year.

The International Federation of Accountants marked the profession's day for the first time 53 years ago, and since 1976, November 10 has officially been recognized as International Accountants' Day.
