Verizon Wireless Outage Affecting Customer Access to 9-1-1 Service

Update: As of 10:55 p.m., January 14, Verizon reports that the outage has been resolved. Customers still experiencing an issue are encouraged to restart their devices to reconnect to the network.

The City of Alexandria is aware of a nationwide Verizon wireless service outage that may impact customers' ability to make calls, including to 9-1-1 emergency services.

Verizon has confirmed the outage and reports that its engineering teams are working to restore service. The company has not provided an estimated timeline for full-service restoration.

If you are a Verizon Wireless customer experiencing service disruption and need emergency assistance:

• Use a landline telephone to call 9-1-1, if available
• Borrow a phone from someone with a different wireless carrier
• Use Wi-Fi calling if your device supports this feature
• Use satellite service on your cell phone (if available), but do not hang up until you have spoken with a call taker.
