Mayor Mantello Announces Major Upgrades Coming to Frear Park Following Bipartisan City Council Vote

(TROY, NY) - Mayor Carmella R. Mantello today announced significant new investments coming to Frear Park after the Troy City Council approved a bipartisan resolution at last night's meeting authorizing the City to bond for up to $6 million to fund long-awaited park improvements.

The comprehensive upgrades will enhance accessibility, recreation, and amenities throughout one of Troy's most treasured community spaces, while remaining fiscally responsible.

"Frear Park is a cornerstone of our community, and these improvements are about making sure every resident and family can enjoy it for generations to come," said Mayor Mantello. "Thanks to the City Council's bipartisan support, we are moving forward with smart investments that expand access, improve recreation, and strengthen this park as a destination for all."

Planned improvements include new playground equipment at both the North Lake Playground and the playground located near the ice rink. The North Lake Playground will be rebuilt as an all-inclusive playground, designed so children and families with intellectual, physical, and developmental disabilities can fully access and enjoy the space.

In addition, the city will construct a brand-new structure on the site of the current temporary tent. The new structure will house a restaurant, which will be put out to a formal Request for Proposals (RFP) in the coming months. Construction of the new structure will begin in 2026.

Recreational upgrades will also include the construction of new tennis and pickleball courts, along with paved and expanded parking to improve safety and accessibility for park visitors, as well as new landscaping and trail improvements.

As part of a phased approach, demolition of the Park Pub is expected to begin in 2026.

While park improvements and construction of the new structure progress, golf course operations will be minimally disrupted. Mayor Mantello thanks the hardworking, dedicated staff of the Frear Pak Golf Course for assisting in planning efforts during these improvements.

"These upgrades reflect our commitment to thoughtful planning, accessibility, and fiscal responsibility," Mayor Mantello added. "I want to thank the members of the City Council from both sides of the aisle for coming together to support this effort and help move Troy forward."

Additional details and timelines for construction phases will be released as the projects advance.
