It is an honour to be here today to witness this Change of Command ceremony.

Thanks to all our guests for being here to highlight this important moment.

Some of you may be learning this today: the Governor General is also the Colonel of the Canadian Grenadier Guards Regiment.

This honorary appointment reflects your remarkable status as a unit that directly serves the Sovereign and the State.

There is so much to say about the extraordinary legacy of the Canadian Grenadier Guards.

You are Canada's oldest infantry regiment.

Your many battle honours tell a story of courage, discipline and exceptional service across generations.

And your commitment continues today, in a rapidly changing security context that raises concerns for many Canadians.

Your deployments in Latvia, under NATO leadership, are a clear example of this.

They show your deep, ongoing commitment to global peace and security.

You also stand ready to support communities here in Canada in times of need.

For all of this, you have our deepest gratitude and admiration.

Lieutenant-colonel Dionne, thank you for your leadership in commanding the Regiment these past two years.

And Lieutenant-Colonel Gagnon, congratulations on your appointment. I wish you the very best as you take on this new challenge.

Looking ahead, Canada will continue to navigate a complex, unpredictable security environment.

That is why the professionalism, integrity and dedication of units like yours matter so much.

I am confident that the values that have shaped generations of Grenadiers will continue to guide you as you write the next chapter of this Regiment's history.

Long live the Grenadiers!
