On Wednesday, October 8th, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, Ionuț Moșteanu, met with Joachim Sucker, Director of the Organization for Joint Armament Cooperation (OCCAR).
The Framework Cooperation Agreement between the Government of Romania and OCCAR was signed on this occasion, which stands for an important step towards consolidating Romania's participation in the European Defence Programs.
The agreement enables the Romanian defence industry to participate directly in OCCAR programs for the development, acquisition and maintenance of modern military equipment, thus contributing to the armed forces' modernization. Through this partnership, Romania will benefit from more efficient, transparent and less expensive procedures for defence procurement.
"The signing of this agreement is a major step towards the armed forces' modernization, an enhanced integration into the European defence system as well as towards supporting the national defence industry. It provides access to the state-of-the-art technologies and enhances cooperation with European partners," Minister Ionuț Moșteanu said.
During the talks, the two officials also analyzed new collaboration opportunities between the Ministry of National Defence and OCCAR. Minister Moșteanu also emphasized Romania's desire to actively involve in international initiatives that promote sustainable development and security.
