Marketplace Insurance Enrollment Dashboard

Access to affordable health insurance is an important factor in improving health and well-being across Kansas. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) health insurance marketplace provides individuals and families without access to affordable employer-sponsored or other qualifying health insurance the opportunity to compare and purchase private health insurance. Many enrollees qualify for financial assistance to reduce premium costs and, in some cases, out-of-pocket expenses. Understanding where marketplace enrollment is most common can help policymakers, stakeholders and communities identify local enrollment patterns and better evaluate access to health insurance across the state.

As initial enrollment data became available, the Kansas Health Institute developed this Marketplace Insurance Enrollment Dashboard to provide a detailed overview of enrollment through the marketplace in Kansas. Using enrollment data from the 2026 open enrollment period (Nov. 1, 2025 to Jan. 15, 2026), the dashboard presents enrollment counts, enrollment rates and the proportion of residents enrolled in marketplace coverage across counties, legislative districts and other geographic regions.

Marketplace enrollment changes monthly as new members enroll during special enrollment periods, while others discontinue coverage or lose coverage because they did not pay their premiums. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) provides effectuated enrollment data, which represent the number of enrollees who have paid their monthly premium and maintained active marketplace coverage. Following the close of the 2026 open enrollment period, 192,811 Kansans selected or were automatically re-enrolled in Marketplace coverage. By February 2026, effectuated enrollment had declined to 143,880, a 25.4 percent decrease, based on the most recently available data. Although effectuated enrollment provides the most current measure of active coverage, it is only available at the state level. To better understand enrollment patterns in the communities where Kansans live and work, including counties and legislative districts, this dashboard presents enrollment data reported immediately following the open enrollment period.
