Build Giant Kites for San Rafael’s Día de Muertos Celebration

Get involved with San Rafael's Día de Muertos celebration by joining a team of community artists to create traditional giant kites, known as barriletes gigantes.

Free 8-week workshops will take place every Friday from September through October at 50 Canal St. in San Rafael. Participants will work alongside local artists to design and build giant kites that will help bring the traditions and creativity of Día de Muertos to life.

No prior art experience is needed. Everyone is welcome to participate.

The completed kites will be part of San Rafael's Día de Muertos celebration on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at the Albert J. Boro Community Center. The free community event will take place from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm and will bring the community together to honor loved ones through art, culture, music, and celebration.
