FIVE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LIQUOR LICENSES
  1. As of September 2024, there are 225 new liquor licenses available in Boston. Learn more about the 2024 legislation.
  2. As of January 2026, businesses with wine and malt beverage licenses are able to trade in their license for a non-transferable all alcoholic beverages license. Learn more about beer and wine license upgrades.
  3. The Licensing Board has developed step-by-step instructions for applying for a liquor license. View the steps.
  4. The Licensing Board is here to help potential applicants throughout the application or upgrade process. At any point during the process, please call 617-635-4170, email [email protected], or visit City Hall, Room 809 for assistance.
  5. The Licensing Board hosts Virtual Office Hours every other Wednesday from 3 pm to 5 pm. If you have questions about applying for a new liquor license or upgrading an existing beer and wine license, we encourage you to attend. They can also answer questions about hour extensions or entertainment licenses related to summer 2026. Register for Office Hours.
