"Albertans rely on the excellence of our skilled trades professionals every day, and apprenticeship education is the foundation that builds that excellence. Completing an apprenticeship is an achievement that showcases both academic and practical mastery.

"The skills gained in apprenticeship are adaptable to various roles and industries and can open doors to leadership roles, entrepreneurship and further education.

"Today, Alberta is seeing a surge in demand for apprenticeship education and the skilled trades. Alberta's government is building on that momentum with a $93-million investment through Budget 2025 to offer more than 30,000 apprenticeship seats at post-secondary institutions and union training centres.

"I'm also pleased to announce that through our Union Apprenticeship Grant program, we have approved eight union training centres to deliver 1,663 apprenticeship seats. They include:

  • Alberta Carpenters' Training Centre
  • Budd Coutts Apprenticeship and Education Centre
  • International Masonry Institute Edmonton
  • Edmonton Pipe Trades Trust Fund
  • Prairie Finishing Trades Institute
  • Piping Industry Training School
  • CLAC Career Development College
  • Electrical Industry Training Centre of Alberta

"We are also working to develop apprenticeship programs in sectors beyond the traditional trades, proving once again that apprenticeship education is an effective mechanism to develop a strong talent pipeline - and a more prosperous Alberta.

"This Apprenticeship Day, I acknowledge and thank all Alberta's apprentices, instructors, mentors and industry partners - you inspire us every day. I also want to thank the Alberta Board of Skilled Trades, the Premier's Council on Skills, and the Skilled Trades Caucus for your continued leadership and helping shape Alberta's future workforce."
