City of Fairfield Recognized Among Nation’s Top Governments for AI Innovation

The City of Fairfield has been recognized by Starbridge as one of the nation's leading local governments for artificial intelligence (AI) innovation, governance, and adoption.

Fairfield ranked No. 79 nationally in the Starbridge Government 100 and was one of only 16 California cities included on the list.

In its evaluation, Starbridge highlighted the City's "pragmatic, pilot-driven approach to AI," citing Fairfield's AI Governance, Strategy, and Implementation Roadmap, participation in the GovAI Coalition, deployment of the AI-powered resident assistant Archie, and public-facing AI resources that support transparency and responsible adoption.

In addition to establishing governance frameworks and deploying AI tools, the City has invested in education and awareness. Fairfield has provided AI training opportunities for leadership and staff and hosted a community AI webinar focused on AI applications, risks, and best practices. These efforts support informed, transparent, and responsible use of emerging technologies.

Fairfield is also an active member of the Municipal Information Systems Association of California (MISAC), which promotes leadership, education, and access to resources for technology professionals to enhance local government services. Through this network, the City engages with peer agencies on topics including cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and IT governance to support continuous improvement in public-sector technology services.

"This recognition reflects Fairfield's commitment to exploring emerging technologies responsibly," said IT Director Naveed Ashraf. "By establishing governance, promoting transparency, investing in education, and focusing on practical applications, we are ensuring that AI supports better service delivery while maintaining public trust."

The Starbridge Government 100 recognizes public agencies across the United States demonstrating leadership in AI adoption, governance, and public-sector innovation.
