The City of Marseille, the CMA CGM Foundation, and Olympique de Marseille, together with Treizième Homme, inaugurated the Peyssonnel City Stadium this Friday, December 12, in the 3rd district.
An emblematic space welcoming youth from all backgrounds
After two years of renovation, the Peyssonnel City Stadium is once again open to the community. Enhanced with a Treizième Homme's mural and a design inspired by the maritime horizon, it now welcomes young people, associations, and schools. As a true neighborhood sports facility, it will foster inclusion, education, and community-building through sport.
"With this new City Stadium at Peyssonnel, we reaffirm a simple conviction: sport belongs to everyone. Here, in the heart of a vibrant, working-class neighborhood, we want football, and sport more broadly, to foster connection, sharing, and hope. The City of Marseille will continue to invest in creating these community spaces, because each City Stadium is a promise made to our youth." declared the Mayor of Marseille.
"With the renovation of the Peyssonnel City Stadium, we reaffirm once again, through the CMA CGM Foundation, that sport is a powerful driver of inclusion, education, and cohesion. Our commitment, alongside the City of Marseille and the Olympique de Marseille, is to offer young people from all backgrounds modern, accessible facilities that will enable them to thrive and believe in their future," said Tanya Saadé Zeenny, President of the CMA CGM Foundation.
"The Capitale du Foot project is one of the strongest expressions of the unique bond between the Olympique de Marseille and its territory. With the inauguration of this fifth City Stadium in less than three years, we are bringing to life the mission of Capitale du Foot, which seeks to empower Marseille's youth to fully embrace the spirit of football: to play, express themselves, come together, and dream as one. Peyssonnel perfectly embodies this ambition to transform a simple pitch into a place of life, community, and shared passion. A space that lives and thrives all year round."added Pablo Longoria, President of Olympique de Marseille.
A long-term program
Since 2023, the City of Marseille, the CMA CGM Foundation, and Treizième Homme have been leading a City Stadium renovation program, which began with the refurbishment of the La Major City Stadium. The most recent field renovated under this program is the Weygand multisport area, located in Parc Corot (13th district), used by the Minots de Marseille club and inaugurated on November 26.
The City of Marseille is continuing its commitment to young people, sport, and neighborhood life with the inauguration of a third City Stadium as part of the Capitale du Foot project. This new sports facility, located in Peyssonnel in the heart of the 3rd district, reflects the municipality's determination to develop local amenities that foster social connection and make sports accessible to everyone.
In parallel, Olympique de Marseille is leading the Capitale du Foot initiative, which has enabled the renovation of two additional City Stadium: Vauban and the Friche Belle de Mai.
The CMA CGM Foundation is committed to the legacy of the Olympic Games for young people in Marseille
Through this program, the CMA CGM Group, through its Foundation, reaffirms its conviction that sport is a powerful driver of integration, social cohesion, and personal development. As the Official Logistics Solutions Partner of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Group and its Foundation are fully contributing to the legacy of the Games by supporting the renovation of local sports facilities in Marseille and promoting education through sport.
Capitale du Foot, a project by Treizième Homme
Treizième Homme is the organization that brings together Olympique de Marseille's key community programs and connects meaningful, high-impact initiatives in the fields of education, social cohesion, sports participation, and environmental protection. Launched in 2023, the Capitale du Foot project addresses a specific need within the territory: rehabilitating under-used spaces and transforming them into attractive, well-designed, and accessible outdoor sports areas for all residents of Marseille.
