Mesquite Mayor Dan Alemán Jr. spoke with area business leaders this week to share information on the State of the City. The Chamber of Commerce luncheon drew a packed crowd at Dallas College's Eastfield Campus to hear the presentation. His message included highlights from this past year's successes, which have seen increases in youth involvement, volunteerism and a great number of economic development wins. The Mayor said the next step in the evolution of the City's progress, is for everyone to step up and, "Get Involved!"
One of the Mayor's primary initiatives since being elected in 2021, is helping mentor Mesquite's youth. Some popular programs include the Mayor's Reading Challenge, Epic Summer Youth Program, and Teen Turnout, each of which inspires hundreds of students through positive opportunities for learning, recreation and leadership. Mayor Alemán also touted Mesquite's new Youth Council, which utilizes strategic partnerships with area businesses to foster civic engagement and develop leadership for the next generation.
Alemán also addressed the City's exponential growth and progress-especially over the past year. Among the many recent wins: attracting both national and international companies, such as HiTHIUM Energy Storage, Canadian Solar, and General Dynamics, which have added nearly 3,000 new jobs. Also anticipated to change the City's landscape is the new 58,000 square foot redevelopment of Town East Mall, anchored by Main Event. The destination for retail and entertainment seekers is expected to revitalize the aging area, draw families for fun, meetings and celebrations-and generate more than a half-million dollars annually.
The Mayor concluded his presentation by encouraging citizen engagement. He noted some of the most prominent programs, community groups, and neighborhood projects and their success in unifying the City. "Community events and programs, help the City retain a sense of small town unity and togetherness some cities only dream to attain," said Mayor Alemán. "But it takes all of us to continue that culture of welcoming inclusiveness. Growth is great-but growth without engagement… that's just expansion. That's who we are in Mesquite," he said. "We show up; we give back; we lift each other up."
