Ramirez Questions Republicans' Use of Committee Time for Politically-Motivated Investigations

Washington, DC - Today, Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez(IL-03) released the following statement:

"The President of the United States carried out an unauthorized invasion of a sovereign country in violation of our Constitution. The Secretary of the Department of Defense authorized military tactics that constitute war crimes. The Secretary of Homeland Security deputized masked criminals to invade our cities. The Secretary of Health and Human Services enabled the resurgence of previously eradicated diseases through his vaccine policies. The crimes of the administration are piling up before our eyes.

But instead of investigating credible reports of impeachable offenses among civil officials, Republicans have turned a blind eye and, instead, spent their time in their committees persecuting labor unions, like the Chicago Teachers Union, faith communities, nonprofits, and civil rights organizations. In line with the Trump Administration's tactics, Republicans in Congress are politicizing and weaponizing the federal government to attack dissent.

Republicans must end their partisan attacks and get back to the business of governance. But Democrats can't continue waiting around for Republicans to do their oversight job. We must start the impeachment hearing ourselves."
