KINGSTON, NY - Today, in honor of National Police Week, Congressman Pat Ryan is thanking Hudson Valley local law enforcement for their service and continued partnership in building a more safe Hudson Valley.

Ryan is highlighting key legislative wins for Hudson Valley law enforcement, as well as celebrating the nearly $6 million he delivered to local agencies over the last year. The funds will be used to make critical updates to County Emergency Operations centers, improve communication between agencies, fund new state-of-the-art equipment, and more.

"More affordable, more safe, and more free - that's the Hudson Valley I want for my kids and for yours. During National Police Week, I want to thank our local law enforcement for their selfless service and tireless efforts to keep our community safe," said Congressman Pat Ryan. "I'm proud to have fought tooth and nail to deliver nearly $6 million in funding directly to Hudson Valley police to ensure they have the resources they need to protect our communities. I'm also proud to work closely with law enforcement leaders in every corner of Dutchess, Orange, and Ulster Counties to introduce critical legislation supporting local cops. We owe our law enforcement officers an immense debt of gratitude - and just like they have our backs, I'll always have theirs."

Throughout his time in office, Congressman Ryan has elevated delivering for Hudson Valley law enforcement agencies. Most recently, Ryan secured nearly $6 million in funding for local agencies across all three NY-18 counties.

"The Dutchess County Sheriff's office will use this critical funding to establish a two-way radio system, connecting and improving law enforcement response times countywide and saving lives," said Dutchess County Sheriff Kirk Imperati. "On behalf of the men and women at the Sheriff's Office I would like to thank Congressman Ryan for his dedication to bolstering public safety in Dutchess County. I look forward to continuing to work together as we make Dutchess County one of the safest places to live in all of New York State."

"Orange County's first responders are true heroes. From our 911 dispatchers to our police, fire, EMS, and Emergency Management personnel, they confront adversity and danger each day, yet remain steadfast in their commitment to protect our families and communities," said Commissioner Peter Cirigliano of the Orange County Department of Emergency Services. "This funding, secured in partnership with Congressman Ryan and his team, is a critical investment in their ability to protect our residents and respond without delay during emergencies. We are deeply grateful for this support and look forward to putting it to work across our community."

"I am proud to have worked with Congressman Ryan to secure this critical funding for the Ulster County Sheriff's Office. It's a crucial step for bolstering public safety in the Hudson Valley," said Ulster County Sheriff Juan Figueroa. "I will continue to support Congressman Ryan and all our local law enforcement in our quest for safer communities."

The projects Congressman Ryan secured funding for include:

  • $1,034,487 for upgrades to the Orange County Emergency Operations Center, including critical upgrades to the existing EOC/911 display wall and a larger screen to accommodate more video sources; upgrades to the technology and displays across EOC.
  • $1,034,487 to establish a new Ulster County Emergency Operations Center. The EOC is part of a larger Government Operations Center and includes 35 individual stations, conference rooms, and a press room.
  • $785,000 for Orange County Jail Body Cameras
  • $1,031,000 for Dutchess County Analysis & Real Time Crime Intelligence Center, to elevate the county's policing efficiency and responsiveness through the procurement of cutting-edge intelligence gathering, analysis, and sharing equipment, in addition to communications equipment and technology-specific training.
  • $1,031,000 for Dutchess County Consolidated Two-Way Radio System
  • $794,000 for Ulster County Sheriff Policing Equipment and Technology Upgrades to deter violent crimes, stop the flow of fentanyl and protect the community.

In honor of National Police Week last year, Ryan introduced the "More Funding for COPS Act" to make it easier for Hudson Valley police departments to access federal funding to bolster safety and officer retention. Ryan has long advocated for increased funding for law enforcement and first responders through the COPS program - additional funding would help allow the COPS Office to increase its grant programs that support local law enforcement and community safety initiatives across the country.

In 2023, Congressman Ryan secured a $300,000 COPS grant for the Middletown Police Department to upgrade their technology investments. Later that year, he secured an additional $400,000 in COPS funding for the Ulster County Sheriff's Office toimplement a crisis intervention response team and combat the opioid crisis. Most recently Congressman Ryan secured a $375,000 COPS grant for the Town of Poughkeepsie to build a new Community Policing Unit to boost public safety.

Additionally, Ryan co-sponsors the "Invest to Protect Act," critical bipartisan legislation to increase funding for local police departments. He is also one of two Democrats to co-sponsor the "HALT Fentanyl Act" - recently signed into law by President Trump - to equip law enforcement officers with the tools they need to protect their communities from drug trafficking.
