Remembrance: The Gouldings commemorates with creativity and community

Residents at The Gouldings came together on Friday 7 November to commemorate Remembrance Day with a morning of creativity and an afternoon of live uplifting music.

The morning saw those staying at The Gouldings, Freshwater, come together to get creative as they produced collages of poppies alongside messages of remembrance to display in their rooms and in the communal areas of the building. Many took this opportunity to share their individual stories and memories of growing up during the war, including cherished tales of loved ones, honouring those that fought for our freedom.

During the afternoon, local singer Emily Scotcher visited the Gouldings to perform a medley of songs that got the audience exercising their vocal cords and showing off their dance moves. A highlight of the session was a particularly moving performance of The White Cliffs of Dover that saw the room fill with song from staff and residents.

Natalie Barker, Activities Coordinator said: "Providing fulfilling activities for those that stay with us is something we are passionate about, and it was wonderful to see so many residents get involved. Whilst this time of year can often bring a lot of emotion, it was a real privilege to hear so many stories and experiences from those who lived through such times and share in remembrance with them."
