Topeka, Kan. - Kansas Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt, today, announced a Sedgwick county man has been sentenced to 12 months of probation for insurance fraud.

Lance Given, age 64, pleaded no contest and was sentenced on July 8, 2026, in Sedgwick County District Court to two misdemeanor counts of fraudulent insurance acts. Given gave false information about the location and circumstances of an accident in order to gain coverage for damages to his vehicle that otherwise would not have been covered by his policy. "Insurance fraud costs all Kansans in the form of increased premiums every year," Commissioner Vicki Schmidt said. "The Department will continue pursuing penalties against anyone committing insurance fraud in Kansas."
