Moral Leadership Symposium

By Stephanie L. Grey, BA '00

The University of the Incarnate Word Mission and Ministry, in collaboration with the Offices of the US Army Chief of Chaplains, will host the second annual Moral Leadership Symposium 2026: Leading with Courage. From April 13-17, the symposium will inspire and motivate community leaders, non-profit professionals, business managers, medical professionals, educators, students and military personnel through discussions on ethical leadership and community collaboration.

As leaders, it is essential to understand how moral leadership applies across various contexts, including academic settings, military operations and community engagement. The symposium will equip participants with an understanding of how moral leadership applies in different situations by presenting examples and exploring moral and ethical dilemmas and decision-making at all levels of leadership. The Moral Leadership Symposium 2026 aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to address challenging situations with integrity and courage.

Featuring keynote speaker, Chaplain Colonel Primitivo Davis, US Army. Distinguished guests and speakers UIW President Thomas M. Evans, PhD, Chaplain Major General William Green, Jr., US Army Chief of Chaplains and Major General Anthony McQueen, Commanding General US Army Medical Center of Excellence. Including presenters from Baylor University Bioethics, Army Medical Command, Navy Medical Command, Air Force Chaplain Corps and the University of the Incarnate Word.

"Moral Leadership is an essential component of our mission as chaplains and leaders within the Army. It embodies the principle that guides our decision-making and interactions, rooted deeply in the Army's core values. As leaders, we are called to lead by example, demonstrating integrity, respect and selfless service in all that we do."

"I trust that this symposium will serve as a valuable opportunity for collaboration, encouraging critical thinking and spiritual reflection. As we engage in meaningful discussions and share our experiences, let us inspire one another to embody the values we hold dear and to equip ourselves to be effective leaders in our communities," stated Chaplain Green.
