Single lane closure on Pali Highway near Wyllie Street on-ramp for speed table installation

Posted on Jun 12, 2026 in Highways News, Main, News

HONOLULU - The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) notifies the public of an alternating single lane closure on Kailua-bound Pali Highway in the vicinity of the Wyllie Street on-ramp and the Consulate General of the Philippines, on Friday, June 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for speed table installation.

Crews will alternate a single-lane closure to install speed tables just before the Wyllie Street on-ramp to Kailua-bound Pali Highway. Earlier in the week, crews installed speed table warning pavement markings and signage leading up to and around the new speed table. A single lane will remain open at all times for contraflow through the work area.

A speed study conducted on Pali Highway northbound prior to the Wyllie Street Overpass found average speed of drivers in the area was 46 mph with some drivers going over 50 mph. The speed limit for this portion of Pali Highway has been lowered to 30 mph in anticipation of the speed hump installation and to provide safety buffer for ingress and egress to the nearby driveway of the Philippine Consulate.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution and allow for extra travel time. Special duty police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control and safety procedures.

Electronic message boards will be posted to notify motorists of the planned closures. All work is weather permitting and subject to change per these conditions.
