Auto Care Association Expands Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Resource Center for Automotive Aftermarket

BETHESDA, Md. - March 13, 2026 - The Auto Care Association today announced the expansion of content in its Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) resource center, designed to help automotive aftermarket businesses understand and prepare for emerging EPR regulations impacting the industry.

EPR policies are gaining momentum across the United States and globally, placing responsibility on manufacturers and importers to manage the full lifecycle of their products, including collection, recycling and safe disposal. These policies often apply to products such as batteries, tires and packaging materials and may introduce new compliance and reporting requirements for companies across the supply chain.

The new online hub provides Auto Care Association members with a centralized destination to access educational materials, regulatory guidance and industry-specific insights related to EPR. The resources are designed to help aftermarket businesses stay informed, assess potential impacts and prepare for evolving environmental policies.

The EPR resource center includes:

  • Educational briefs explaining the evolving EPR regulatory landscape;

  • A quick-start guide for producers, distributors and brand owners;

  • Compliance toolkits addressing state-level programs and reporting requirements;

  • Webinars and expert-led sessions on adapting to lifecycle responsibility regulations; and

  • A one-page industry overview outlining what EPR means for the aftermarket.

The resources also explore how EPR policies may affect automotive aftermarket companies, including potential changes to packaging requirements, recycling obligations and reporting processes. These materials aim to help businesses prepare for upcoming state and national policy developments while maintaining compliance and operational efficiency.

The full suite of resources can be accessed at Auto Care Association's EPR Resource Hub: autocare.org/epr-resources.
