Texas Drilling Permit and Completion Statistics for August 2026
September 09, 2026AUSTIN, Texas - The RRC issued a total of 695 original drilling permits in August 2026. The total includes 594 to drill new oil or gas wells, 8 to re-enter plugged wellbores, 15 field transfer, 76 for re-completion and 2 reclass.
The breakdown of well types for total original drilling permits in August 2026 is: 116 oil, 48 gas, 481 oil and gas, 30 injection, 2 service and 18 other permits.
In August 2026, Commission staff processed 939 oil, 287 gas and 168 injection completions.
