Civil Emergency management: New measures mark the beginning of a new era in civil protection

The General Staff Support Battalion of the Albanian Armed Forces marked its 60th anniversary with a solemn ceremony attended by senior state and military leaders, including the President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Bajram Begaj, Defence Minister Pirro Vengu, and Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Arben Kingji.

The event paid tribute to the Battalion's long-standing contribution and its key role throughout the evolution of the Albanian Armed Forces.

In his address, Defence Minister Pirro Vengu described the anniversary as a milestone in the unit's history, one that has accompanied Albania through every stage of its military transformation and state-building, especially during the years of transition.

"The 60th anniversary of the Support Battalion marks a particularly meaningful moment in the history of this unit. It has been present through every phase of Albania's modern history, reflecting both the transformation of the Armed Forces and the challenges of state-building. Our aim is to reaffirm this Battalion's responsibility for safeguarding the capital and critical infrastructure.
Another key aspect is that this Battalion has served as a command school for the Armed Forces, it's no coincidence that many of today's senior leaders started their careers here. It represents the full spectrum of operational readiness and embodies the spirit of statehood." - said Minister Vengu.

He went on to thank commanders and personnel past and present for their professionalism, dedication, and sacrifice, underlining that the modernization and strengthening of the unit remain a lasting priority.

President Begaj, in his remarks, praised the devotion of both the military and civilian staff, describing the Battalion as an elite and modernized unit of the Albanian Armed Forces.

"This six-decade journey has been marked by sacrifice but crowned with dignity. Your achievements stem not only from training and discipline but also from your adherence to the sacred trinity of duty, honor, and homeland. This has always been the moral compass guiding every generation of soldiers and remains the foundation of the Armed Forces' pride and trust.

Like the Battalion itself, the Armed Forces have entered a new era, more modern in equipment and capability, and more respected within Albanian society." - said the Head of State, also highlighting Albania's growing role in NATO, United Nations, and European Union missions.

During the ceremony, the Battalion Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Orges Shuraja, reaffirmed the troops' commitment to continue serving with the same dedication. The event brought together generals, former commanders, and members of the unit who have proudly contributed throughout the years.
