Team Moulton Helps Constituent Secure Long-Delayed USAID Pension and $180,000 in State Department Compensation

SALEM, MA - Today, Congressman Seth Moulton (MA-06) announced that his office successfully helped a constituent secure their long-delayed USAID pension benefits while also assisting in the release of approximately $180,000 in damages owed through the U.S. Department of State, after delays.

The constituent, a former federal employee who served overseas through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), saw their life upended during the January 2025 riots in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, when their home was destroyed and their family was forced to flee dangerous conditions as violence escalated across the city. After later losing their job due to the Trump Administration's dismantling of USAID, the constituent applied for federal pension benefits and compensation for damages related to their overseas service, but faced significant delays in receiving both.

After repeated attempts to resolve the matter independently proved unsuccessful, the constituent turned to Congressman Moulton's office for assistance.

Following extensive coordination with USAID and the State Department, Congressman Moulton's casework team was able to help secure the release of the constituent's pension benefits that had been delayed for 8 months and facilitate the payment of approximately $180,000 in damages that had remained unresolved for over one year.

"After more than a year of waiting, I'm proud that our team was able to help resolve this case and deliver real results for someone who dedicated part of their career to serving our country overseas," said Congressman Moulton. "Donald Trump's decision to axe USAID was a disastrous one not just for America's national security, but also for the human impact it had on the thousands of USAID staff who found themselves suddenly jobless. I'm glad we could make things right for this individual and get them their well-deserved pension benefits finally."

Congressman Moulton's office regularly assists constituents with issues involving federal agencies, including veterans' benefits, Social Security, immigration, passports, tax matters, and federal retirement benefits.
